Ian's Story

Life I remember band from my Sophmore year and German and Chemistry from my Junior year. Many of you I cannot remember since I have moved about 21 times and tend to forget where I knew you from when you ask if I remember you. Here is a quick timeline of my life after graduation: Jul 1985 Departed for basic training, Fort McClellan, AL (Army) Nov 1985 Departed for more training, Fort Lee, VA (Food Service) Dec 1985 Arrived in Baumholder, Germany (2/68th Armor Regt, 8th ID) Jun 1990 Arrived in Monterey, CA (Defense Language Institute) Aug 1990 Married Tamara Dawn (Steel) of Defiance, OH (Pacifc Grove, CA) Jul 1991 Arrived in San Angelo, TX (Goodfellow AFB) (Intelligence) Nov 1991 Arrived at Fort Meade, MD (741st MI BN, 704th MI Bde) (NSA) Jul 1995 Arrived at Fort Irwin, CA (511th MI Co, 11th ACR) (NTC) Nov 1997 Arrived at Fort Meade, MD (704th MI Bde) (NSA) Sep 1999 Arrived in Korea (102nd MI BN, 2nd ID) Oct 2000 Arrived at Fort Huachuca, AZ (Army Intelligence School) Jul 2005 Retired after 20 years in the Army Jul 2005 Worked for Anteon Corp at Black Tower (UAV Training) Mar 2006 Ft Leavenworth, KS Working as an ARMY civilian intelligence analyst Jul 2006 returning to Arizona after my wife had a stroke; employment pending. Dec 2006 Ft Sill, OK, Working for SAIC on Army Electronic Attack I attempted to write from Germany for the first few years, but found that no one would write me back. They were too busy with their own lives and problems. I briefly made contact with some classmates, updating my profile around 2003. I located Wendi Elliott (Mayfield Class of 86) who was and is a friend of mine from school. I married Tamara (Tammy) Steel from Defiance, Ohio. I met her in Germany. She was there with her then husband. He was abusive to her and her children, so I tried to help her...Expand for more
--looking back, this was not the best decision I could have made and is probably not the best reason to marry some one, but it has worked well. This caused me a lot of problems with the command, as you might imagine. We have had some very tough times, but have stuck through it together. The children have come to know and love me as their dad as I have shown them the same love that I would have my own children. The girls are now grown: Tasha (25) and Jesse (24). The job is not done when they become adults. I also now have grandchildren; the oldest is now six. His name is Nick; he has two younger sisters, Gabriella and Emily. I have also taken in my nephew, Allen (18) who wants to be a soldier. Good Luck to him on his quest. I have completed my BS in Business Information Systems and have signed on with SAIC at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I will be working on a contract for Army Electronic Attack. I am in the process of closing on a house there in Lawton, the house of our dreams. December 2007: Well, the house had some flooding and plumbing problems this Spring when we got a whole lot of rain--only one tornado near miss. A new french drain and sewer line from the house to the city and a backup flow preventer fixed my problems. Also installed really great and expensive windows in the whole place. I stained the fence to match the barn-red house--it looks good. Tammy is having problems with a job in this part of the country (she had about six jobs this year). My job is going well. Well, we gave up on Oklahoma and have moved back to Sierra Vista, AZ (Christmas of 2008) to make it our home. We moved because Tammy got a great job offer from her previous employer. I have the house up for sale or rent in Lawton, OK (5 BR/3 Bath). Best Regards to you all and God Bless, Ian (Micah) Sweany
